Golf Scramble to benefit MUH baseball

Miami University Hamilton will hold its Fifteenth Annual Golf Scramble on Sunday, August 23 at Walden Ponds in Fairfield Township. The shotgun start is scheduled for 2 p.m.

The four-person team fee is $360 and includes 18 holes of golf, door prizes, driving range balls and dinner. Prizes will be awarded for individual long drive contest, closest-to-the pin contest, and skins game.

Proceeds from the scramble will benefit Miami Hamilton Harriers Baseball team.

Local restaurants hold benefit for family of fallen Cincinnati officer

Walt’s Barbeque and J. Austin’s Riverbank Café in Hamilton will donate 40 percent of all guest checks (except taxes and gratuity) all day long Tuesday (July 7) to benefit the family of fallen Cincinnati Police Officer Sonny Kim.

“The Cincinnati Police Department’s talented professionals and their families have been regular customers for more than 30 years,” said Executive Chef James Riley. “We want to specifically give back to Officer Kim’s family and continue to show our gratitude and support of the brave men and women who protect and serve Cincinnati.”

Joining the two Hamilton restaurants will be Walt’s Colerain location and Riley’s Restaurant in Springdale. All are owned by the Legacy Restaurant Group.

“Our heartfelt condolences go out to the families impacted by this tragedy,” said Gloria Riley. “We love the communities we do business in and we want to provide a convenient and impactful way to express honor and thanks to Office Kim’s family. They have lost a father, husband and loved one. And the Cincinnati police department has lost a respected colleague.”

Gift baskets will be auctioned off at each location to bolster the impact. Donations for the auctions/giveaways are now being accepted.

Benefit Set for 5-Year-Old Ryley From

In mid-January, five year old Ryley From was sent to Children’s hospital to have what they thought were further testing due to Ryley having blood in his urine. It was then he was diagnosed with a Wilm’s tumor.

Ryley had to undergo immediate surgery to remove his right kidney, the tumor, and surrounding lymph nodes. They staged Ryley at stage III because the cancer has spread into his lymph nodes. Ryley will go through intense chemo & radiation treatments. Ryley was otherwise a healthy 5 year old little boy.

Ryley has been a brave little boy facing an unexpected diagnosis and the intense treatment that lies ahead. Ryley’s partner in this fight has been his loving mother Melissa.

Melissa is a single mother and cares for Ryley 100% on her income. Melissa has chosen to take a leave of absence from work to be there to support Ryley during this difficult time.

Melissa is a US Army veteran and previously was the vice president of the NKU veterans organization. Melissa has given back to the Vets & organized several events in the past. Both Ryley and Melissa have a long road a head of him. With your contribution we can help Ryley and Melissa fight this battle.
